Cost of Building a Professional Website in Indonesia 2025: A Complete Guide

Why Do Website Costs Vary So Much?

The question "how much does it cost to build a website?" almost always gets the same answer: "it depends." This isn't an evasive answer — it's reality. A Rp 5 million online store and a Rp 200 million enterprise platform are both called "websites," but they are fundamentally different products.

This article provides an honest breakdown of costs based on the Colabs team's experience building 7+ digital projects for clients across various industries in Indonesia.

Cost Components That Build the Price

Before looking at the numbers, understand first what you are paying for:

1. UI/UX Design

Not just a "good looking website" — good design is design that converts. UI/UX covers user research, wireframing, prototyping, and visual design. This is the part that determines whether visitors turn into customers or not.

Cost portion: 20–30% of the total project.

2. Development (Front-end & Back-end)

Front-end is what the user sees and clicks. Back-end is the engine behind it — database, business logic, APIs, payment systems. The more complex the features, the larger the development portion.

Cost portion: 40–60% of the total project.

3. Content & On-Page SEO

A website without content optimized for search engines is like a shop in a dead-end alley — the product is there, but no one finds it. Copywriting, image optimization, and correct heading structure go here.

Cost portion: 10–20% of the total project.

4. Testing & QA

Cross-browser testing, cross-device testing, performance testing, security scanning. Don't skip this — bugs in production are far more expensive than the cost of early testing.

Cost portion: 10–15% of the total project.

5. Hosting & Domain (Annual)

A .id domain ranges from Rp 150–300 thousand/year. Hosting depends on traffic — shared hosting starts at Rp 500 thousand/year, VPS Rp 1–5 million/month, and cloud (AWS/GCP) can be much higher depending on needs.

Website Price Range in Indonesia 2025

Landing Page / Company Profile (Rp 5–20 Million)

• 3–7 static pages (Home, About, Services, Contact)
• Mobile-first responsive design
• Basic contact form
• Basic on-page SEO
• Turnaround time: 2–4 weeks

Note: Below Rp 5 million almost always means a WordPress template without meaningful customization — and full of security risks if not managed properly.

Business Website with CMS (Rp 20–60 Million)

Suitable for: medium-sized companies, businesses with regular content updates, marketing teams needing autonomous control.

• Custom CMS or headless CMS (Sanity, Strapi, Supabase)
• Blog / articles with integrated SEO
• Admin dashboard for content updates without a developer
• Form integration with CRM or email marketing
• Premium UI animation and interaction
• Turnaround time: 4–8 weeks

E-Commerce (Rp 30–100 Million)

Suitable for: brands selling products online, stores with 50+ SKU inventory.

• Product catalog with filters and search
• Shopping cart and checkout
• Payment gateway integration (Midtrans, Xendit)
• Order and inventory management
• Automatic notifications (email/WhatsApp)
• Turnaround time: 8–16 weeks

Custom Platform / Web App (Rp 80–300 Million)

Suitable for: businesses with complex workflows, marketplace platforms, SaaS, enterprise internal systems.

• Full custom features tailored to business processes
• Multi-user with roles and permissions
• Third-party API integration (ERP, POS, logistics)
• Analytics dashboard and reporting
• High scalability, cloud infrastructure
• Turnaround time: 3–9 months

5 Cheap Price Traps to Avoid

1. "Website done in 3 days for Rp 500 thousand"

No professional developer can deliver a quality product in 3 days for that price. What you get: a free template that has been re-named, without support, and short-lived.

2. No written contract

Unclear scope = continuously increasing invoices. Ensure every feature is defined in writing before the project starts.

3. No warranty period

A newly built website can still have hidden bugs. Professional vendors provide a minimum warranty of 30–90 days for bug fixes at no extra cost.

4. Bundled hosting with non-transparent pricing

Some vendors "lock" your website into their hosting and raise the price dramatically when the contract renews. Request full access to the domain and hosting under your own name.

5. No handover documentation

When the project is finished, you are entitled to: access to all accounts (hosting, domain, third-party services), technical documentation, and source code. Without this, you are entirely dependent on the vendor forever.

ROI of a Good Website

A website is not a cost — it is an investment. The right question isn't "how much does it cost?" but "how much will I generate from this?"

One of our e-commerce clients who invested Rp 85 million for a custom platform managed to increase conversion from 1.2% to 3.8% in the first 6 months — equivalent to adding Rp 400+ million/year in revenue from the same traffic.
